Facial Masculinization Surgery (FTM Facial Surgery)
What is FTM Facial Masculinization Surgery?
Facial Masculinization Surgery is a set of surgical procedures that change the feminine features of a female face to be more masculine. For most female-to-male (FTM) transgendered people testosterone therapy works to masculinize the face, but depending on your features, facial masculinization surgery may be the right option.
As a transgendered person appearing to the outside world the same as you feel inside emotionally is critical for self-esteem and personal happiness. Facial Masculinization Surgery aligns the inside “you” with the face you show to the world.
The Difference between Men’s and Women’s Faces
Men’s facial skeletons are usually larger, longer and more angular than women’s. Men’s skulls usually have “bossing” in the area of the frontal sinuses making them larger. The chin is usually about 17% higher in men and larger overall.
To make a female face appear more masculine many techniques can be used along with testosterone therapy. The forehead can be lengthened, the cheeks and nose augmented, and most importantly the jaw reshaped and the chin recontoured.
How do we Masculinize a Female Face?
Some or all of the following surgical procedures may be undertaken during Facial Masculinization Surgery (FMS):
- Forehead Lengthening & Augmentation
- Cheek Augmentation
- Rhinoplasty (Nasal Augmentation)
- Chin Recontouring (Genioplasty / Mentoplasty)
- Jaw Contouring (Jaw Reshaping)
- Adam’s Apple Surgery (Thyroid Cartilage Enhancement)
